ALWAYS bring a coat! Leave it at the coat-check, but always bring a coat! One day will be cloudy and a bone chilling 43 degrees; the next day a warm wind from the southwest will kick in and it will be 65 degrees and sunny. Check weather.com before leaving if you're coming in from another part of the country. Look for the Nashville, Chattanooga, Memphis, or Knoxville forecast; this will give you some idea of what we're experiencing at the moment, and for what to pack in the luggage.
And leave the hoop-skirt at home; we have southern hospitality, but we don't dress like something out of Gone With the Wind!

The national average for a wedding is approximately $25,000 as of June, 2008. This doesn't mean YOUR wedding has to cost this, it's just the current average brides and grooms are experiencing. You can have a small scale affair for a couple thousand dollars, or you can go all out and spend up into the six figures! What should be important is it's all about what YOU want to spend, what your budget allows; don't let a 'national average' determine your wedding budget.
Water! Water! Water!
We're coming into holiday season where the elements have a tendency to zap our energy along with taking a toll on our body. Remember to drink plenty of water; this will keep you hydrated along with making your skin glow. It will also curb your appetite by making you feel full - a handy little deal when the appetizer tray gets passed around twice at the holiday party!
This is your time to be radiant! Don't let the weather or holiday stress rob you of your time to shine!
If your planning your wedding for April/May, you may will want to reserve your wedding day transportation early. This is prime time for limo services not just because of weddings, but PROM season! The same is true for New Year's Eve weddings, fall season weddings (high school homecoming events), etc.
Consider your bridesmaids feelings when deciding what to wear. Not all styles are flattering on all shapes and sizes. You don't want your attendants feeling self-conscious about what they're wearing - you want them to be able to relax and have a good time without worrying about the next time that spaghetti strap is going to fall! (or worse, if they will fall OUT of a strapless number!!)
Consider a day out with your bridesmaids to choose their attire. They will more likely be pleased if they have some input on what they're wearing (and paying for!) Most will love the opportunity to be involved and excited to spend the day with you and the other girls while shopping for dresses, shoes, and accessories.
Don't forget the moms! Their dresses don't have to match the bridesmaids, but they can be complimentary in color and formality. They may be just as excited to have THEIR own day shopping with you as well.
Groomsmen DO care what they look like. Make sure their suit or chosen attire looks good on all of them.

A sports, hobby, or special interest cake lets your guests know a little more about the two of you. Place the cake alongside the wedding cake, or give it a special table all of its own.
You might reconsider that chocolate fountain (this is where I get alot of "fountain vendors" mad at me!) Unless you're have a 'no children please' wedding, the chocolate fountain is an accident bound to happen. Kids will be kids and licked fingers end up in the molten chocolate lava.... sharing lovely germs that only the Mucinex commercial can bring to life. Yuck! Or the guest who gets excited to see a long lost relative - only to launch a chocolate laden marshmallow from her fondue fork on a voyage across the room and onto Aunt Sally's designer gown!
So unless your heart has been set on a chocolate fountain, consider a 'candy station' instead to satisfy that sweet tooth. Set up glass canisters (available at the dollar store) and fill them individually with bags of penny candy from years gone by. Your mature guests will LOVE reminiscing about the treats they enjoyed as kids and the kids won't get into as much trouble!
