Brighten up your morning with a gorgeous real wedding on the Greek Island of Zante!
Sophie and Jamie tied the knot on the 29th of May 2015 on the beautiful Cameo Island.
Here is what the bride and groom had to say about their special day….
Why did you choose to get married in Zante, Cameo Island in particular?
When we first got engaged we first started to look at weddings here in England, however as a sun worshipper I always wanted to get married abroad. We put ‘weddings abroad’ in Google and The Bridal Consultant website came up. We had a browse through what they had to offer and instantly fell in love with Cameo Island. We loved the idea of having our wedding on a private island and the island looked so beautiful and picturesque we just instantly knew that was where we wanted it. I have been to Greece a number of times and always loved it.
How long in advance did you book your wedding?
We booked our wedding 2 years in advance, we decided 2 years would be a good time to save and get everything as perfect as we wanted it.
How many guests did you invite to your wedding and how many accepted and attended?
We invited 30 guests to our wedding including children as we booked the package with 30 guests, the total that attended was 21.
You look lovely in your dress! What made you choose this style and how long did it take you to find ‘the one’!?
I went for a proper wedding gown with a train. It was sequinned on the front and back with a sweetheart neckline and a V shaped back. The place where I bought it from put layers underneath so that it protected the dress from any damage the sand may cause and where the sand could easily fall out without getting caught. I had just had a baby and only had 7 months till the big day and I had booked appointments with three wedding boutiques. I went to the first appointment and picked out 8 dresses to try on. I tried them all on and the last one was the one I fell in love with. I don’t know what made me know it was the one, but I just adored the way it felt and it really made me feel like a true princess. I suppose it was a dress that was just ‘me’ through and through. I didn’t want a massive dress, but I wanted something elegant and beautiful and my dress was just that.
Can you tell us about your shoes and accessories, where were they from?
My accessories were from the same place where I bought the dress. I had a tiara, but not a normal tiara it was one where the detail was to the side of my head, it had pearls and a diamanté design. My necklace, earrings and bracelet were all pearls with a diamond in the centre, I went with this because it reflected the sun and really made them stand out.
My shoes were just basic sandals from Primark with flowers on the front, I knew the island wasn’t suitable for heels so I just went for something comfortable but pretty.
What about the grooms suit, where did he purchase this and what made him choose this look?
The groom purchased his suit, he went for a light grey linen suit with trousers, linen shirt and waistcoat from next. He wanted something that was light so it complemented the sun and lined so it wasn’t too hot.
We’re loving the lace bridesmaids dresses! Why did you choose pale pink in particular and where were these purchased?
The bridesmaids dresses were a pale pink to match the colour theme. They were lace with a sweetheart neckline and fitted their bodies. They were floor length with a small train on the back. I had seen something similar online so I had the dresses custom made to how I wanted them.
Your bouquet is gorgeous! Why did you choose roses?
I went with a bouquet of pale pink roses. I chose these as I had seen a bouquet similar on Pinterest and loved them, so I sent a picture to Matt and asked if I could have them like that. I chose them because I think roses are traditional but beautiful.
Did you theme your wedding? If so why did you choose this theme?
Our wedding theme was pale pink. We went with pale pink because we thought that with it being on an island and a hot sunny day, a light colour would look very flattering on the photos and it would complement the scenery more.
What about the smaller details of the day? What was your wedding cake like? Your menu choice and table plan? Did you have any entertainment?
We had a two tier wedding cake, one was chocolate and the other was vanilla and fresh cream. It was absolutely beautiful! What we liked about the wedding cake was that it was like a gateau but with a beautiful design and a little more fitted to a wedding. It was completely different to the kind of cake we would have had at home, for our evening reception back in the UK we had a normal sponge wedding cake so I liked the idea of having the cake different. For the meal we went for a BBQ. We decided that we didn’t want a sit down meal as we could do that if we got married in England, we agreed that a BBQ was more fitting and added to the true feeling of being married abroad. We went for a top table with us both on, our 9 month old little boy, best man and mother of the bride. We then had two large round tables with name cards for the rest of the guests. We also had a DJ so that we could all have a dance and a laugh.
How did you find the planning experience from booking to the big day?
I found the whole planning was excellent. The help and support we had at home from The Bridal Consultant was great, they were always on hand if I had any questions about anything and always explained everything the best they could with full information. When we arrived in Zante we had our pre wedding meeting the day before the wedding and the planner over there was also a great help, she provided us with full information and explained the itinerary of the day in great detail. You were all brilliant and so helpful! The big day was absolutely perfect, even more perfect than we ever imagined. We would do it all over again if we could!
What’s your best memory from the day?
We can’t specifically pick one best memory as the whole day was just perfect, but the memory we will treasure forever is committing the rest of our lives together in the company of those closest to us in the most perfect setting we could have wished for.
What do you think makes a wedding abroad stand out from a wedding in the UK?
In our personal opinion, a wedding in the UK can be very expensive as we believe you pay for everybody else’s benefit. We believe that when you get married abroad you share your special day with those that are special to you and that want to be there as they make so much effort to be apart of the day. We believe it stands out from a wedding in the UK as the scenery is amazing, beautiful and so picturesque. You get amazing wedding photos, guaranteed lovely weather, and it makes it so much more exciting in our experience! It’s also something much different to a wedding in the UK!
Cameo Island sure does make the perfect wedding location! Would you say your I do’s here?
