Real Zante Wedding – Sam and Mike 2017

In June 2017 we had the pleasure of being a part of our lovely couple Sam and Mike’s special day in Zakynthos.

The couple said their I do’s at our gorgeous beachfront venue Agios Sostis, which offers stunning sea views.

After visiting the island for over 9 years, they knew it was the perfect location for their wedding.

Today, I’m catching up with the bride to hear all about their special day on the Greek Island.. Enjoy x

Why did you choose to get married in Zante, Agios Sostis in particular?

We wanted to get married in Zante because we love the island. We’ve been going out there on holiday for about 9 years as a couple. Agios Sostis is a great location near to where we like to stay in Zante.

How long in advance did you book your wedding?

We booked the wedding in February 2016.

How many guests did you invite to your wedding and how many accepted and attended?

We invited 23 people to the wedding. Initially we asked family first. For anyone who couldn’t make it we then asked close friends to come along as well. In the end we had 20 adults and 4 children attend.

You look stunning in your dress! What make was this and how many dresses did you try on before finding ‘the one’?

My dress was by a company called Sincerity. I found it at a local bridal shop which was the first shop I went to, though I did try on half the shop to assess what style I liked the most. It was the third dress I tried on.

What about your shoes and accessories?

I purchased my shoes online from a shop called JJ House, I saw them and loved them immediately. My accessory was my veil which I got from the same shop as my dress. I loved the simple style of it with subtle diamante edging…it was beautiful.

Can you tell us about Mike’s attire, what did he choose to wear?

Mike and I searched almost all of the shops looking for his choice of suit. It was a silk grey suit which was a lightweight feel. It was a very reasonable price and exactly what he wanted. He just went for a waistcoat, trousers, tie and short sleeved white shirt.

We love the colour of your bridesmaids dress! Where was this purchased?

I found my bridesmaid dress for my cousin on a website online. It was a lovely turquoise halter neck floor length dress.

What flowers did you choose for your bouquet and why?

I chose white, peach and pink roses for my bouquet as they are my favourite flower.

Did you theme your wedding?

We chose a beach theme wedding with a turquoise colour scheme. We thought it suited the location brilliantly.

What about the smaller details of the day? Your cake and menu? Did you have any favours? What about entertainment?

Our wedding cake was beautiful and matched our theme perfectly. It was made with sea shells and we added a beach theme ‘couple’ topper.

Our menu was a Greek buffet. The food was very tasty and there was lots of it, it went down very well.

Our favours were turquiose flip flop shaped bottle openers per couple and hand held fans for the ladies as it was very hot.

Our table decorations were beach themed. We chose round mirrors under goldfish bowls with sand and shells, white table cloths with turquiose runners and turquiose crystals. Our chairs were white dressed with turqouise bows. We also added vintage bunting as well as lots of lovely fairy lights which was a special request of mine.

The entertainment was brilliant with Greek music and brilliant dancers who got everyone involved and joining in.

We then had the DJ from 9pm until midnight which kept us dancing the night away.

How did you find the planning experience from booking to the big day?

The planning experience was really great. Lots of information always given from Sasha and the team at The Bridal Consultant.

Plenty of prompting to do things and when to do it all. We found it great to be able to contact them if we needed to for anything at all.

Right through to the big day meeting the local wedding planner and their team at the venue. They were absolutely wonderful.

What’s your best memory from the day?

I loved all of it. Marrying my best friend was the best bit.

What do you think makes a wedding abroad stand out from a wedding in the UK?

An abroad wedding worked for us as we don’t have a big family so it was good for our guest numbers and it also worked out having it abroad was cheaper than the UK. Plus we love Zante so it made sense to have it out there!

What advice would you give to future brides and grooms who are getting married abroad?

Planning is key. Speak to your wedding planner and the team as much as you can, ask lots of questions. Work out what you want from your day and most of all enjoy every minute of it. It goes very quickly.

Thank you to Sam and Mike for allowing us to share their special day! We love how the couple incorporated their beach theme into the decoration. Will you be choosing a theme for your wedding? Leave your comments below!
