What better way to start the week than with a stunning real wedding on the Greek island of Zante?!
On the 10th of July, Colette and Darren jetted off to Tsilivi with all their closest family and friends to have their dream Catholic ceremony followed by a beach side reception. Here’s what Colette has to say about her special day…
Why did you choose to get married in Zante, St Markos Church and Terrazzo Beach in particular?
Both my husband and I are Catholic’s so we knew we wanted to get married in a church. This did restrict our choice in location as some areas do not carry out catholic weddings so it narrowed our choice to Greece or Cyprus. My brother had married in Cyprus so we thought we would try Greece and Zante had been highly recommended to us.
Terrazzo beach was our preferred reception venue as it had access to the beach and the view of the sea was just perfect for us and what he envisioned.
How long in advance did you book your wedding?
We booked our wedding 2 years in advance.
How many guests did you invite to your wedding and how many accepted and attended?
We invited 29 adults and 6 kids to the wedding so we were delighted that 26 adults and 5 kids attended.
Tell us about your stunning dress, who was the designer and how long did it take you to find the perfect one?!
My wedding dress was designed and made by an American company called ‘Forever Yours’. I had one of the last orders as the designer retired and chose not to carry on the range. It took me around 5 months of continuous shopping and searching to find this stunning dress.
Tell us about your shoes and accessories…
My bridal shoes were by Rainbow Club and my tiara and veil were from Richard Designs. I bought everything together from Opus Couture Bridal Boutique in West Kilbride Scotland. My husband also bought me some gorgeous pearl earrings from Ernest Jones and I wore a pearl pendant and bracelet from Zenzhu jewellery to match.
We love Darren’s formal suit, where was this from?
Darren wanted a smart but comfortable look so he purchased a light grey, 3 piece tailored suit from Reiss.
We adore your bridesmaids dresses, tell us about them…
My bridesmaids wore beautiful one shouldered coral coloured Dessy dresses which I purchased from a bridal store in Scotland.
Your pretty rose bouquet compliments your dress perfectly, why did you choose this?
I chose roses for my bouquet as they’re one of my favourite flowers, I chose to have them in creams and corals as they complimented my colour scheme.
Other than your coral colour scheme, did you theme your wedding?
I wanted the best of both modern and vintage to be featured in my wedding so I had a bright coral coloured theme in Zante with lots of vintage details and then lace and pearls for our reception at home.
Tell us about the small details, the cake, the menu, the favours and decor.. How did you choose these and were you happy with your choices?
Our wedding cake was chocolate and vanilla, and we had it in coral to match our colour scheme.
For our evening meal we had a choice of prawn cocktail or moussaka for starter, chicken or steak for main and our wedding cake as desert. It was delicious and all the guests commented on how great it was!
We were quite happy to allow the team in Zante to decorate our reception, using shabby chic style bunting and hearts. Our centre pieces were fish bowls filled with sand and candles, and we certainly weren’t disappointed. The beautiful decor created a lovely laid back beach feel.
How did you find the planning experience from booking to the big day?
We found the whole planning experience very exciting. On the whole, I was never stressed or worried once as all our questions were always answered by Matt or Lisa promptly. It ran so smooth and having the planner at the wedding was brilliant. Everyone commented on how calm I had been on the run up to the wedding and also on the wedding day. That’s all thanks to you, it was perfect!
What’s your best memory from the day?
Best memory…. That’s a difficult one. We loved every single second of the day. I could not say a specific memory. I loved the service at the church and I loved the dancers and music at the reception.
What do you think makes a wedding abroad stand out from a wedding in the UK?
I think a wedding abroad is all round less stressful. Although my husband and I had a formal wedding In Greece, I don’t think anyone felt an uptight feeling that can overtake at some UK weddings. It was also great for us to have a massive family holiday and celebrate pre and post wedding with all our close family and friends. The weather abroad is another major positive!!
We can’t individualise anything that was specifically special as we loved everything and every single moment of our day.
Both Darren and myself and all our guests can’t stop talking and reminiscing about how wonderful our wedding was!
