Real Santorini Wedding – Osaze and Charles 2018

Back in August 2018 newly weds Osaze and Charles jetted off to the island of Santorini along with 135 guests of their family and friends to say their I do’s against the breathtaking Caldera.

Featuring two gorgeous venues, two stunning bridal dresses and a first look photo shoot captured by the amazing Nathan Wyatt! Prepare to swoon over this beautifully elaborate wedding celebration…

Why did you choose to get married in Santorini, Santo Winery and Oceanside  in particular?

I have always wanted a destination wedding ever since I could remember, when Charles proposed 18 months ago we both knew that we wanted guaranteed sunshine with breathtaking scenery on our wedding day. After looking at various venues in Italy, Croatia & Greece we kept on returning to the iconic blue domed churches adorned with white crosses against white washed architectural backgrounds overlooking the most scenic backdrop, perfect for a magical day with friends and family.

Santorini ticked all boxes. We chose to have our ceremony at Santo Winery purely for that scenic view of the caldera, an ideal setting for our guests. Oceanside was a perfect backdrop for our reception party with the sounds of the dreamy Aegean sea, chilled atmosphere and private area for our guests to party into the early hours of the morning.

How long in advance did you book your wedding?

We booked both venues in March 2017 for our guaranteed wedding date of August 2018.

How many guests did you invite to your wedding and how many accepted and attended?

We invited 150 to 160 guests and 135 guests came. 18 of our 135 guests were children including our page boys and flower girls. This made our day extra special watching our niece, nephews and cousins walking down the aisle.

You chose two beautiful dresses for your wedding, can you tell us about the gowns and why you chose them? Who were the designers and how long did they take to find?

My main wedding dress was by a Spanish design house Novia D’art, I fell in love with the dress after trying on 15 different mermaid style dresses in 3 bridal boutiques. The dress was originally a sweetheart neckline which I had custom made by the ever so talented Roxy at Atelier Gold Bridal Couture. I kept changing my mind about the neck detailing of my dress from a crystal shoulder strap to a lace short sleeve until I settled with the 3 quarter lace sleeve and back lace detailing which we had to order from Barcelona 3weeks before our wedding. It took me 6 months to find my dress.

My reception dress was a bespoke dress which I designed and had custom made by Linda at Cobbina Studios.

We’d love to hear more about your shoes and accessories…

My shoes were from Valentino. They were very comfy and matched my second wedding dress. My veil was from Linzi Jay, it was very detailed with the embellished beading and diamantes. My bridal hair comb was from Ivory & Co and my earrings were from Atelier Gold Bridal Couture in Brighton.

Charles looks very handsome in his attire! Where was this purchased?

The Grooms suit was custom made by Moss Bros, the groomsmen suits were also from Moss Bros.

We love the soft tone dresses chosen for your bridesmaids, where were these from?

When choosing my bridesmaids dresses I originally liked the idea of having various styles in the same colour palette. I went with soft neutral tones which worked perfectly with the scenery. The bridesmaids dresses were by TFNC on ASOS, I chose two different styles in the same colour palette. The first style complemented my main wedding dress with the lace up back detailing, the second style had an embellished shoulder to complement my veil.

Your bouquet, what flowers did you choose and why?

My bouquet was everything and more! I have a soft spot for roses and decided to stick to a natural colour palette. I went with David Austin roses, avalanche roses and greenery. Wedding wish created the most perfect bouquet and they smelt amazing.

Did you theme your wedding?

We didn’t really have a theme for our wedding, I wanted natural romantic greenery, industrial golds, and for both venues to merge well with our chosen decor. The choice of greenery worked perfectly with our picturesque backdrop.

What about the smaller details of the day? Your cake, table decoration and favours? What menu did you choose and were you happy with your choice? Tell us more about the personal touches you incorporated into the day…

Our wedding cake was simply beautiful, we decided on two layers with greenery. Our cake topper worked perfectly with our reception table decoration.

We chose a mix of two geometrical vases with flowers, scattered greenery and candles for our reception tables. This made for a romantic ambience throughout the evening. Our guests loved their place card setting which was engraved and cut using a laser cutter. The key place card setting doubled up as a bottle opener.

Our favours were flown in from Cameroon by Charles mum. We gifted guests with various animal fridge magnets each placed into colourful gift bags made of African wax print fabric sewn by our mothers. This added a special touch to our table arrangements.

Our food was just perfect, we went with the BBQ wedding buffet and live cooking perfect for our large guest number. We had welcome drinks for our guests and 5 hours of drinks on tables as they had their meals. We also had an open bar for guests up until midnight, this was an extra treat for them.

We included a welcome table for guests to dress up and take polaroid snap shots of the day from their perspective. This was documented in our guest book, an idea which I had from Pinterest so I can’t take all the credit.

For the ceremony we placed paper fans on each chairs to keep guests cool and provided guests with a glass of santo wine as soon as our ceremony was over.

How did you find the planning experience from booking to the big day?

We enjoyed the planning stages from day one, myself more than Charles. Everything ran smoothly due to all the help from Sasha. I could not fault anything from the planning phases right through to our wedding day. We had the most magical day.

What’s your best memory from the day?

The best memory for me is having my mum present at our wedding, she had been on chemo after battling cancer at the start of 2017. Having a first look photography with mum at my bridal suite was the best moment from the day. I am so grateful to have that special moment with mum followed by my dad walking me down the aisle.

What do you think makes a wedding abroad stand out from a wedding in the UK?

Having a wedding abroad stands out from a UK wedding as all our loved ones are there to make our day extra special. A wedding abroad is truly magical, we spent a week with family and friends and have many life memories from our time spent abroad. Memories which will last a life time thanks to choosing a special location for our wedding day. Santorini was the most perfect location, our guests are now planning their next holiday back to Santorini. We wish we could press rewind and do it all over again!

What advice would you give to future brides and grooms who are getting married abroad?

For those of you getting married in the near future, have an amazing day and make sure you take time out just the two of you to reflect on your special day! This could be a walk together away from guests or just a few special moments stepping back and taking it all in, as the day truly fly’s by. I highly recommend a sweetheart top table, this allows guests to come to you for their well wishes and saves you going around to say hi to everyone. Our sweetheart table was placed near our BBQ buffet meal which meant all guests stopped by to pass us their congratulations and well wishes.

For all of you that have your wedding to come, enjoy the planning stages and make sure you enjoy your special day.

Osaze and Charles were a dream couple to work with and we don’t we’ll ever get tired of looking back on their beautiful wedding. Leave your comments below!
