Newlyweds Natalie and Simon’s are taking the spotlight on our blog today!
The couple exchanged their vows in August 2018 on the beautiful island of Santorini surrounded by their nearest and dearest.
Prepare to swoon over their gorgeous photographs captured by Ben Wyatt…
Why did you choose to get married in Santorini, The Rocabella Hotel in particular?
We both love Greece and heard from family and friends how beautiful Santorini was. Plus we wanted something chilled and laid back for our family. Rocabella was at the top of our lists from our Santorini wedding research plus the reviews were fabulous!
How long in advance did you book your wedding?
It was 15 months I believe.
How many guests did you invite to your wedding and how many accepted and attended?
We invited almost 100 however we didn’t expect everyone to attend due to expense. After a few cancellations, there were 30 of us all together.
We love your dress! Who was the designer and why did you choose this particular style?
My dress was Maggie Sottero. I absolutely loved the back of the dress but it didn’t tick all the boxes initially so the bridal seamstress tweaked and altered it to suit and by the end I loved it! I originally considered a plain sleek dress with a little lace but couldn’t risk it getting grubby with my toddler’s little hands so I opted for a dress which had texture such as lace and beading.
Can you tell us about your shoes and accessories, where were these purchased?
Being a size 2.5 shoe is a complete nightmare when trying to buy shoes and although some designers stock my size, I didn’t want to pay a fortune on a pair which may hurt my feet in the heat. However, I luckily managed to find a pair of strappy metallic rose gold sandals from Reiss which fit and were so comfortable all day! My jewellery was bought as a gift from my parents – I opted for simple studs and a delicate gold bracelet. Nothing was typically ‘bridal’ as I wanted to wear everything again, including my shoes.
Simon looks very handsome in his attire! Where was his suit from?
We looked at different options for the Groom but he found a lightweight 3 piece grey suit, shirt, tie and pocket handkerchief all from Reiss. He looked like he stepped out of a catalogue! So so handsome!
Did you have any bridesmaids/flower girls? Can you tell us where you purchased their dresses from?
We shopped around for my bridesmaid dresses and eventually found a style we loved from a high street store! They were a blush pink colour and had a detailed neckline with pearls and diamante. My daughter and step daughter were our little flower girls and their dresses were in rose gold and from Monsoon. They also had floral Alice bands in blush pink and rose gold. They looked adorable!
Your bouquet is stunning and looks lovely against your elegant dress! Were you happy with your choice of flowers?
I love roses, ivory roses in particular so I was very happy when these were offered to me. My bridesmaids had a lovely bunch of Gypsophila and the groom had a simple ivory rose to match my bouquet.
Did you theme your wedding?
I absolutely love anything rose gold! So this was my main theme with white, blush pink and dove grey accents.
What about the smaller details of the day…
I took quite a few of my own decorations including rose gold wooden place names, photo frame table names, confetti cones, bride and groom signs. The colours all tied in with our theme perfectly and looked elegant.
We also arranged the favours in our hotel room the day before the wedding with help from some of the bridal party! These were little jars of nuts and Greek olives.
Our cake was a deep single white vanilla cake which had fresh flowers placed on top. It looked just as I imagined and tasted gorgeous!
We had a few different starters for our wedding breakfast which were presented ‘family style’ so our guests could try different Greek Cuisine. The main was fish or pork and the dessert was a chocolate dessert which was delicious. We also had a frozen yogurt cart which was brought out in the evening which the guests loved. Unfortunately I didn’t have any as I was too busy dancing!
We decided to have a singer/guitarist to serenade us throughout our wedding breakfast which was such a lovely decision. He was brilliant and so lovely! As we both love the saxophone, we decided to hire one to play later in the evening. This added a really cool touch!
How did you find the planning experience from booking to the big day?
To be honest, I found the process fairly stressful because we didn’t have much time to research, having a toddler to occupy. However I’m so glad we hired The Bridal Consultant to take control! The team on the day were absolutely fantastic too. We truly felt like celebrities for the day and nothing was too much trouble!
Do you have a favourite memory from the day?
I’ve got so many beautiful memories of the day. I tried to hold on to each significant moment, from the moment I walked down the aisle with my dad, seeing Si standing there, taking our vows, the time we had alone for our photo shoot and entering as Husband and Wife. I also loved our first dance and the sparkling fountains we had which amazed all our guests. The day was like a dream!
What do you think makes a wedding abroad stand out from a wedding in the UK?
Although it can still be apprehensive planning a wedding abroad, I think being on holiday surrounded by all your favourite people prior to your wedding really helps build the excitement ahead of the big day. Everyone who is there, wants to be there for you. They’re in good spirits and chilled and the whole atmosphere is just so laid back. Also, the celebration continued after the special day as we still had a few days on holiday to celebrate and reflect with everyone.
What advice would you give to future brides and grooms who are getting married abroad?
Try not to stress! The Bridal Consultant team will ensure everything runs smoothly. All the big details aren’t required when you are getting married abroad. Everyone just appreciates the romance, the beautiful views and of course the sunshine!
