Why did you choose to get married in Santorini, Le Ciel in particular?

We got engaged whist in Santorini in October 2016 and knew immediately that we would be back for the wedding, we came across Le Ciel by chance on a walk shortly after and knew it was where we wanted to get married – we didn’t even view any other venues, it was exactly what we were looking for.

How long in advance did you book your wedding?

We booked our wedding as soon as we returned home and were engaged for two years in total.

How many guests did you invite to your wedding and how many accepted and attended?

We invited 58 guests and had 50 on the day – it was a great turn out and more than we had expected. We chose the end of the season to make it more affordable for our guests to come over. We have family and friends living in California, Singapore and New Zealand so people travelled from all over the world.

Your dress is so elegant! What make was this and how did you know it was the perfect dress?

My dress was by Enzoani and I found it in the first shop I looked in. I contemplated carrying on looking but my bridesmaids pointed out that it was perfect and exactly what I had said that I was looking for. When I looked back on my pinterest board a few months later, it turns out I had actually pinned the exact one previously! I absolutely loved my dress.

What about your shoes and accessories? Where were they from?

My shoes were Jimmy Choo and I wore a diamond necklace, which Matt gifted me as a surprise on the morning of the wedding, I also wore diamond studs.

The Grooms suit, did Matt purchase or hire a suit?

The groom, groomsman and fathers all wore suits hired from Anthony Formal Wear – although Matt also opted for a made to measure shirt.

We love your multi way bridesmaids dresses! Where were these purchased and why did you choose this particular style of dress?

The bridesmaids wore silver multiway dresses by Two Birds, they were beautiful and everyone commented on how lovely and flattering the material was. They’re really great dresses, they need no alterations and can be worn in a variety of ways – one of my bridesmaids even changed her style for the reception!

Your bouquet complements your dress perfectly, what flowers did you choose and why?

I originally had my heart set on peonies as they’re my favourite flower, but unfortunately it was the wrong time of year for them. I instead went for white roses and hydrangeas. I wanted a classic and feminine feel.

What was your wedding theme? And why did you choose this?

We wanted the theme to be simple, modern and elegant. We went for silver and grey with white flowers and greenery, which we think complemented the venue perfectly.

We’d love to hear more about the smaller details of the day….

We opted for a simple two tier semi-naked cake, we didn’t want a really big cake that would go to waste and felt this was still a really lovely option. We also had a small treat table with cake pops, macaroons and meringues.

Matt is a physicist and the tables were named after famous scientists from his field. The favours were solar system lollies and they were a great talking point.

We had three menus, a meat, a vegetarian and a vegan – Le Ciel were very accommodating and happily made changes to the set menus for us too.

How did you find the planning experience from booking to the big day?

Extremely easy, The Bridal Consultant made everything so straight forward and effortless. I had a good idea of how I wanted the day to look and feel from the start and TBC made it happen.

What’s your favourite memory from the day?

We opted for a sweetheart table and sitting just the two of us, reflecting on the ceremony and watching everyone enjoying themselves was a really lovely moment.

What do you think makes a wedding abroad stand out from a wedding in the UK?

The scenery/setting is just beautiful and for us, it would have been hard to find a comparison in the UK. The wedding day felt more intimate compared to larger weddings we have attended at home – being abroad, we only invited close friends and family and so had the opportunity to spend time with everyone on the day. We also noticed that all our guests were far more relaxed from being on holiday and the day just flowed perfectly.

What advice would you give to future brides and grooms who are getting married abroad?

Do it! I worried so much about the cost to everyone and whether people would begrudge attending, but I needn’t have worried, all of our guests said it was the best wedding they had ever been to and had the most amazing holiday. The whole experience was just perfect.

Love Lucy and Matt’s wedding as much as we do? Leave your comments below and don’t forget to share!
