We are delighted to share with you this morning an intimate wedding on the Greek Island of Santorini! We’re catching up with lovely bride Jenny who tells us why she chose to get married in Santorini and what inspired her big day! Enjoy x
Why did you choose to get married in Santorini, The Rocabella in particular?
We loved the backdrop literally everywhere in Santorini! The whitewashed walls and flashes of cobalt blue inspired our colour theme for the day. ‘Santorini blue’ as we now fondly refer to it has always been both of our favourite colours so it just had to be Santorini! The Rocabella just oozed ‘cool and class’ from first googling venues through our wedding planner. The location and infinity pool were both winners in our eyes.
How long in advance did you book your wedding?
We booked the venue 6 months in advance, plenty of time to plan and actually enjoy planning together without being too far in advance that it feels like forever!
How many guests did you invite to your wedding and how many accepted and attended?
We invited about 50 close friends and family and had 40 attend the ceremony, most coming on the same flight as us so it was an adventure for us all from start to finish!
The bride’s dress, what make was your dress and how long did it take to find the perfect one?!
Ooooo my gorgeous dress was from a cute little shop called Dress me Pretty in my hometown of all places! It is by a designer called Nicola Anne and was ‘just perfect.’ She sells ex designer samples and dresses that people want to resell as most have literally only been worn for a few hours. A fantastic concept in my opinion. I tried on dozens over the course of maybe 2 months.
Can you tell us about your shoes and accessories where were they from?
My shoes were by Irregular choice and were the first thing I bought! I thought that they were so original and so ‘me’ My gorgeous hairpiece was also from Dress me Pretty where I bought my dress from and features the same lace pattern and pearls, I think I loved this just as much as my dress! I borrowed some pretty freshwater pearl earrings from my mum to keep it simple.
We love the grooms suit, did he buy or hire?
My husband bought his suit from Selfridges, it was the first one we saw and was a really unique petrol blue colour. He looked absolutely gorgeous and will be able to wear it again when he takes me out somewhere posh! (hint, hint)
Your bridesmaids look gorgeous in their dresses, where did you find them?
The bridesmaids dresses were the beautiful ‘Santorini blue’ and were by the brand Lipsy. They were lovely and floaty, suited all shapes and went with the location perfectly!
We LOVE your bouquet! What flowers did you choose and why?
Plain white roses. Simple, classy and beautiful. I gave my bouquet to one of my best friends as I’d just LOVE for her to be next down the aisle.
Tell us about your decor…
We kept our theme of Santorini blue and white for our decor too and we added some elegant paper birdcages as table decorations. We love the colours and wanted to keep things simple so that we could concentrate on enjoying the day with our family and friends.
How did you find the planning experience from booking to the big day?
Honestly… it was fun, hassle free and very enjoyable! Were both quite easy going with similar interests so that always helps!
What’s your best memory from the day?
Oh gosh, just heaps!!! From start to finish it was perfect. The venue, the company, food and the kids all having fun just all enhanced our experience. The weather was a bit blowy towards the end of the evening and the mist came down from the mountains so we were literally ‘dancing in the clouds’ Even that added to the occasion. My son wasn’t comfortable in his wedding suit so changed into his swim shorts within half an hour and had fun on the hot tub and pool right next to our designated wedding area. Laid back and effortless pretty much sums up the experience!
How much did you spend overall on your big day? Was it on budget or over budget?
We’ve not totted up the figures but we had an amazing day and are comfortable now so that’s all that matters to us.
What do you think makes a wedding abroad stand out from a wedding in the UK?
I think each wedding is unique as is each couple but for us it was all about having our nearest and dearest with us. Everyone that came with us really wanted to be there rather than feeling that they had to and that really showed in how relaxed everyone was. I also think that getting married abroad is less stressful as whatever you haven’t packed when you get on the plane, you will have to do without. Our day really was the most perfect day of our lives, using a wedding planner really was the best decision we made, especially when dealing with the documentation and legalities. The have great local knowledge and if we were to do it all again, we wouldn’t change a single thing.
Do you love Jenny and Ben’s Santorini wedding as much as we do? Leave us a comment and don’t forget to share!
