Real Italy Wedding – Faye and Malachy 2016

Today’s real wedding took place in the beautiful Italian town of Sorrento at The San Francesco Cloisters followed by a reception at our Hidden Terrace wedding venue.

Faye and Malachy jetted off to Italy with their closest friends and family to say their I do’s on the 23rd of September 2016 and today I’m catching up with the newly weds to hear all about their special day! Enjoy x

Why did you choose to get married in Italy, The Cloisters and Hidden Terrace  in particular?

After a month of deciding on our wedding destination we finally agreed on Italy. We had looked into New York to begin with but it didn’t feel right. Italy was always somewhere we had wanted to visit and when we seen pictures of the Cloisters we fell in love with it!! My parents had been to Sorrento before and said how beautiful it was so I was confident we were making a great choice.

How long in advance did you book your wedding?

5 months!! We got engaged in Edinburgh on 11th of March 2016 and we had our wedding booked by the 11th of April!

How many guests did you invite to your wedding and how many accepted and attended?

We only invited close family and friends. We had 23 guests in total and we asked around 30. We were so happy and overwhelmed at the number of guests coming at such short notice!

Your dress is beautiful! What make was this and with only 5 months to go until the wedding did you struggle to find ‘the one’?

The make of my dress was Annasul Y and I bought it from The Wedding Dress Company in Corbridge. This was the first and only wedding dress shop we visited! With only having 5 months until the wedding there were some dresses I couldn’t even look at as they would take too long to make. I tried a lot of dresses on that day however I fell in love with my dress as soon as I tried it on! I knew it was the one.

What about your shoes and accessories? Where were these from?

My shoes were Jenny Packham, they were embellished and matched my dress perfectly. They were so comfy on the day! I wore an embellished head piece which was from the wedding shop too, my bridesmaids bought me this as a gift. I also wore an Italian full length veil and pearl earrings which were a gift from my husband and a pearl and gold bracelet that my mum gave me on the morning of the wedding.

Tell us about the groom’s attire…what look did Malachy go for?

The groom and groomsmen’s suits were purchased from Moss Bros in Newcastle. They wore blue 3 piece suits which were 100% wool to make them more breathable for a wedding abroad.  They were modern suits rather than traditional tailored ones and the men wore them with blush pink dessy ties and pocket handkerchiefs.

Your bridesmaids look lovely in their gowns! Where were these purchased>

The bridesmaids wore Dessy dresses from a shop in Carlisle called Capricorn. They were blush pink which was also the colour theme of the wedding.

We love your bouquet! What flowers did you choose?

I chose blush pink roses, ivory hydrangeas, ivory peonies and ivory sweetpeas.

What was your wedding theme?

The wedding was a vintage theme with blush pink and pearls.

What about the smaller details of the day? What was your wedding cake like? Your menu choice? Did you have any favours and entertainment?

We went for the traditional Italian Lemon Wedding Cake and chose the more simple menu to cater for all, this was a 5 course meal.

Our favours were bottles of lemon cello with our names and the wedding date. We also had a DJ on the night which we initially weren’t sure on having however everyone danced and partied all night so we definitely made the right choice. We also had sparklers when cutting the cake for a bit of fun, everyone loved these especially my 3 year old daughter.

How did you find the planning experience from booking to the big day?

I found it easy and stress free due to all of Lisa’s hard work.

What’s your best memory from the day?

We have so many happy memories from our day, it was perfect from start to finish. A special moment was when we were having our photos taken on the terrace looking over the Amalfi Coast at sunset. This was towards the end of the day and we were overwhelmed with how perfect the setting was on our special day.

How much did you spend overall on your big day? Was it on budget or over budget?

We spent around £17k, we didn’t have a set budget.

What do you think makes a wedding abroad stand out from a wedding in the UK?

Very chilled and laid back. We loved every minute of the planning, our week in Italy and our amazing wedding day. We would do it all over again tomorrow!
