Meet our newest Diary of a Destination Bride Rebecca and her hubby to be James!
The couple will be tying the knot in Dubrovnik in 2018 at our Tranquil Garden wedding venue on Lokrum Island followed by a reception at The Elegant Private Terrace.
On the run up to their wedding day Rebecca will be sharing with us all of her wedding planning details! We can’t wait! But for now, let’s introduce the bride and groom to be….
Tell me a bit about yourself and your partner… how did you meet?
We first met at a friend’s party, then again months later on a NYE night out…James then asked one of my close friends (one of my bridesmaids) about me and asked for my number. He then text and asked me out on a date! From then we were inseparable and moved in with each other 6 months later.
Engagement story (how did he pop the question)?
On New Years’ Day, after celebrating the new year in London, it was time to head home, so off we all went to Kings Cross Station to catch our train.
We both wanted our photo taking at the Platform 9 ¾ (from the Harry Potter films), however the queue was too long. So we went into the Harry Potter shop to look around… it was rather busy so James went to wait outside. I then walked outside the shop and James shouted me and said “I have got us two VIP tickets, come on quick”. So without thinking I put the scarf on, grabbed a wand and we had our photo taken.
Before I put the wand down, I turned around… there he was, on one knee opening a ring box and said “will you marry me and be my wife..?”
I was in total shock, shaking and crying! I was so overwhelmed and happy…I then said yes!
Everyone was cheering, clapping and some of the ladies in the shop were sobbing congratulating us.
The photographer at the platform caught the moment on camera and I later found out that our friend knew all along and videoed the moment.
Watch the lovely proposal here…..
What made you chose to get married abroad over a UK wedding?
We have always wanted to go abroad to get married, we loved the idea of going away to somewhere warm and taking our close friends and family with us. We knew we didn’t want a church wedding or typical production day. We wanted to do something different and what we really wanted, so we decided to just do it!
How did your families react when you announced you were getting married abroad?
Most were expecting it as we have always said it would more than likely be abroad. All of our friends and family were over the moon, excited and cannot wait to book their flights! We will be having a ‘do’ in the UK when we get back to share the celebrations with everyone who is not coming to Dubrovnik.
You’ve chosen to get married in Croatia, was this an easy decision or did you look at several other destinations before choosing?
We were initially looking at Cyprus as we have both been before and James has relatives from Cyprus, but we just couldn’t find the perfect venue so we then explored more options. We looked at Greece, Zante and Crete but then as soon as we saw the venue we have booked in Croatia we loved it straight away. After reading and hearing good news stories, we knew we had found the right place to get married.
