So Lisa, tell me a bit about yourself and Kieran?
I am a mother of a beautiful 5 year old girl called Jorgie, who lives with myself and Kieran in Coventry. I own a cleaning company that has been running for 6 years. Kieran is also self employed and owns a bathroom and kitchen company which is a new business but so far he is doing very well. We have a nice home which we bought in October, we are a really happy close knit family, thrive on life and most importantly, each other. Myself and Kieran are still like a new couple we laugh, joke and love each others company (most of the time)!! We have a positive out look on life and always surround ourselves with friends and family which we love dearly. I am a bit ditzy, Kieran is the more sensible one of us both. We are so alike its a match made in heaven…… I am sure Kieran would agree.
How did you meet?
Myself and Kieran met through a mutual friend who initially showed me a picture of him on the internet, to which I rejected as I wasn’t too sure he was my type. The following weekend I was out celebrating our mutual friends birthday, when my friend went to the bar and was speaking to Kieran (whom I hadn’t been introduced to at the time), later that evening I asked my friend who it was she was speaking to at the bar when she informed me it was Kieran. I was totally gobsmacked, he looked like a different person. The following day I looked him up on the internet, and sent him a message to apologise for being rude and not even saying hi, to which he replied that’s fine!! The conversation continued to flow with the usual banter and a massive spark. I met up with him the following day and we haven’t spent much time apart since. Never trust the internet pictures…..
Tell us about your proposal, how did he pop the question?
My proposal was so romantic! Kieran had secretly arranged 10 weeks in advance that he was going to propose, only telling my parents and my closest friend. 4 days before the proposal he took me shopping for new clothes and packed me a secret suitcase. Then he told me 3 days before the proposal that he was taking me on a holiday whilst we were at Nandos as I had been working so hard. The following day we made our way to Manchester airport and stayed there over night, I still had no idea where he was taking me. The next morning we got into a queue and he finally told me we were flying to Las Vegas! I could have fainted I couldn’t believe it, he had arranged by himself our visas, the right clothes, my pills for the flight as I am so scared of flying, literally everything. On our first proper night in Vegas I was still shocked but so excited, he had arranged for us to go for a meal at Prime in the Bellagio Hotel, so we went for cocktails and then went to watch the fountains in front of the Bellagio, which had beautiful music playing, draping trees, and a spectacular water show, it just was so romantic. He informed me that he was going to ask the people behind us to take a picture and a few minutes later he shouted ‘Lisa’. As I turned around there he was on one knee with a ring, saying ‘Lisa I love you with all my heart, I want to spend the rest of my life with you, will you marry me??’ I couldn’t believe it, I shouted yes through the tears and everyone around was clapping and jumping. It was the most amazing feeling in the world and in my eyes I am a very lucky lady.
Why did you choose to get married abroad over a UK wedding?
We always knew we didn’t want a traditional wedding and wanted something different with effortless beauty, natural if you like. Having nice weather and the beautiful views were a big deciding point and in my opinion a holiday abroad is very relaxing making it equally enjoyable for our guests.
How did your families react when you announced you were getting married abroad?
Our families were excited, although Kieran’s were a little apprehensive. Kieran’s parents have never been abroad so it was a big ask of them. Also the money side of things was also a massive ask. People that care for us will of course be there or at least try, but it still didn’t stop Kieran and I worrying about the cost for other people. We both have brothers and sisters that were really happy and excited for us both, and Jorgie couldn’t be happier as she is going on an aeroplane!! My nan and granddad unfortunately can’t come as my nan is not in the best health and couldn’t fly, Kieran’s grandma is also very poorly with cancer so they cannot come either. This is why we will need lots of photos and we are paying for a videographer so they can watch the ceremony back and not feel left out. Overall they are all over the moon and happy and to top it off they get to holiday and get a tan on a beautiful Greek island!
You’ve chosen to get married in Santorini, was this an easy decision or did you look at several other destinations before choosing?
We always knew it was going to be Santorini and decided on this destination from the outset, I have an instagram account and so many pictures of Santorini are always cropping up. When I looked into it further we just knew that, that’s where we wanted to say our “I do’s”! It looks like the most spectacular island I have ever seen yet so simple, ‘ not the most ideal for children, but we thought the people attending will have family and friends all around I am sure we can make our own entertainment for a week or two. So no, we never looked anywhere other than Santorini, just like when you know you’ve found your perfect wedding dress we knew we’d found the perfect island!
