Diary of a Destination Bride – Meet Kaleigh and Liam

I always liked him from afar although I don’t think we ever spoke to each other!

Happy Friday! This morning we’re introducing you to our newest diary of a destination bride Kaleigh who will be marrying her childhood sweetheart Liam on Cameo Island in Zante next year followed by a reception at Agios Sostis beach.

Keep your eyes peeled as this lovely couple will be sharing their wedding planning journey in the run up to their special day, enjoy x

So Kaleigh, how did you and Liam meet?

Me and Liam met when I was 16 and he was 18, I had just moved home from living in the U.S and he hung out with my cousins boyfriend and his friends (I always liked him from afar although I don’t think we ever spoke to each other!). I drifted apart from that group a little and we didn’t see each other for a year or so until I went out for my 18th birthday in Warrington and there he was, I was a little merry and I may have asked for a birthday kiss….. Cringe!

And what about the engagement story? How did he pop the question?

We went on our first ever couple holiday (after 9 years) so I was really excited to go on a relaxing holiday to Lanzarote just the two of us. On our 2nd evening there he suggested going for a nice walk, (which thinking back should have given it away as he is not a romantic stroll kinda guy) we walked until we reached the top of a hill where you could see a lot of the island and that’s where he asked me, it was a complete surprise and I was also so shocked at how amazing the ring was that he had chosen for me. It’s perfect.

What made you chose to get married abroad over a UK wedding?

I have never wanted a big traditional wedding and I have always wanted to get married abroad for many different reasons such as the romance of a wedding abroad, being away and having fun with all my closest family and friends and of course the nice weather!

How did your families react when you announced you were getting married abroad?

Our families are so excited that some booked their flights and accommodation before we did! Obviously there were some that would prefer we had a church wedding in the UK but that’s just not my personality so we stuck with what we wanted to do.

You’ve chosen to get married in Zante, was this an easy decision or did you look at several other destinations before choosing?

To be honest I always wanted to run away to Vegas to get married but when I really thought about it I think I would feel sad that my closest family and friends weren’t there to share it with us (plus nobody would see my dress! lol) and we when we looked into the cost of flights and hotels for our family it was just way too expensive. I then looked into Ibiza because it’s one of my favourite places, its beautiful, it has a lot going on for people of all ages, it has a modern yet bohemian feel to it, and it would be cheap for our guests to get there but when I looked into the cost of a wedding it was working out way too expensive.

Then one day I was looking online with Liam’s mum and she saw a picture of Cameo Island and I just loved the look of it, the link led to The Bridal Consultants page and I just thought this is perfect! When I thought of the qualities I liked about Ibiza I thought this seems to apply to Zante too! There is something for everyone, its lively but you can still get away from it all – and again Cameo Island just looked so beautiful.
