Diary of a Destination Bride – Meet Amy and Liam

We’re delighted to introduce to you our new Diary of a Destination Bride Amy and her partner Liam who will be marrying on the Greek Island of Zakynthos in May 2019.

Amy and Liam have chosen the beautiful Cameo Island for their ceremony followed by a reception at Terrazzo Beach.

From now until the wedding the bride to be will be documenting her wedding planning journey and keeping us updated on all things wedding related here on the blog! If you would like to follow Amy’s wedding planning journey then keep an eye out on the blog for regular updates!

For now, let’s find out about the couple and why they chose Zakynthos for their special day…

Tell me a bit about yourself and your partner…

After graduating from university last summer, I now work as a HR Assistant for a heating and plumbing supplier. Liam is currently an Accounts Senior for an accountancy firm and is studying to become a Chartered Accountant. We’re easy going people and enjoy relaxing and spending time together. We’re big ‘foodies’ so like to go out for dinner together as well as watching the latest releases in the cinema. When I like a bit of ‘me’ time I head to the gym, whilst Liam is a gamer and spends time on his games console.

How did you meet?

We’re classic ‘high school sweethearts’ and met during secondary school. Liam is older than me and was in the school year above me, but we made contact through social media and got chatting. After a few weeks of constant talking we were together, and have been ever since! We will have been with each other for over 8 ½ years by the time we tie the knot, and we cannot wait to start a new chapter of our lives together.

And your engagement story? How did he pop the question?

We had chosen my ring together, almost a year before he popped the question. I left the when, where and how down to him. In February 2016 we went away for the night to London to have a nice weekend together and we chose a fancy hotel to stay in. Liam knew I didn’t want the proposal to be in front of anyone, so he waited until we were back from our meal to ask me to marry him. It was sweet, intimate and just between us. Of course, I cried my eyes out!

What made you choose to get married abroad over a UK wedding?

We both love to travel and always try and get away to somewhere hot once a year. The (almost) guaranteed sunshine you get abroad was also a big winner for us. It would be my worst nightmare to organise a summer UK wedding, only to have it rain all day. Also, after some research we realised the average price of a wedding abroad was considerably lower than a UK wedding, so it ticks all the boxes for us.

How did your families react when you announced you were getting married abroad?

So far, we’ve had a very positive response to getting married abroad, which is heart-warming as we know not everybody has the money or means to be able to join us. It’s lovely to know that people are willing and really don’t want to miss our big day. For those who are unable to join us, we fully understand and will be holding a UK celebration upon our return, which will be something to look forward to after the big day is done.

You’ve chosen to get married in Zakynthos, was this an easy decision or did you look at several other destinations before choosing?

It was easy to decide we wanted to get married abroad, however deciding where took a little longer. We originally thought somewhere in Greece, possibly Santorini but then swayed long-haul and ended up being set on marrying in St Lucia for a good few months. As we researched more into the destination, numerous red flags arose, and it was feeling less and less like the day we would want. We then found The Bridal Consultant and when looking through their destinations, instantly fell in love with Zante, specifically Cameo Island. We feel the destination matches our relaxed personalities perfectly!

We can’t wait to hear more about what Amy and Liam have in store for their big day! Leave your comments in the box below and don’t forget to share!

  1. This is lovely and brought a tear to my eye reading your story so far, I am so excited for next May and your special day. Although Amy is already very much part of the family, becoming daughter-in-law officially is going to be a very special day and I will need super strength waterproof mascara!!
