Meet our newest Diary of a Destination Bride Allie and groom to be Jamie!
The couple will be tying the knot in June 2018 at the beautiful Dana Villas in Santorini. Throughout their wedding planning process the bride to be will be filling me on all things wedding related and I for one can’t wait to hear all about her and Jamie’s plans, but first let’s find out a little bit more about the couple….
Tell me a bit about yourself and your partner…
I work in an office as an administrator and Jamie works in IT as an application Support Team Leader. We love spending time with our friends and family and going on long breaks to the beach with our dog. I am very lucky that Jamie loves to shop as much as me fortunately I don’t have to drag him round the shops!
How did you meet?
I met Jamie through a mutual friend and we clicked straight away. We have been together for 5 and a half years now and after 2 years of being together we bought our first ever home and our cocker spaniel Minnie, she is our fur baby and is a big part of our lives.
And your engagement story? How did he pop the question?
We had booked a trip to New York City in November which I was so excited about as this was my first time going to America and New York has always been somewhere I’ve dreamed of going. On our 5th year anniversary we had been to watch the New York Knicks at Maddison Square Gardens and then followed that having drinks at a rooftop bar and visiting the empire state building.
Jamie said to me I have a present for you and gave me a white box which had a book in it, full of pictures of our last 5 years together. I turned the page to find a poem that Jamie had written and it finishes saying ” there’s room in this book for one more thing.. that’s a picture of you with the ring”! I looked up to find him on one knee asking me to marry him with the most beautiful ring I had ever seen. I was over the moon that my best friend had asked me to marry him in the most magical city. New York truly has a big place in our hearts now.
What made you chose to get married abroad over a UK wedding?
My dream has always been to get married abroad. Me and Jamie absolutely the love the sun and I have always loved the idea of having a week of celebrations with our family and friends.
How did your families react when you announced you were getting married abroad?
Most of our friends and family were expecting it as we have always said if we were to get married it would be abroad and they have all started booking their flights and accommodation and cannot wait. We will be having a do when we get home to celebrate with our friends and family who couldn’t make Santorini.
You’ve chosen to get married in Santorini, was this an easy decision or did you look at several other destinations before choosing?
We fell in love with Santorini a few years ago and always knew this was the place we would want to get married after reading all the stories from other brides and seeing their stunning pictures, Santorini was a definite.
