We might all think that men get it easy in the outfit department but actually…choosing the right suit for a wedding abroad can be a difficult task for many grooms!
The first thing you need to think about is the heat, you want to feel comfortable in the hot temperatures but also want to look the part on your big day, fear not! Here we share with you our top tips on how to choose the perfect suit for your wedding abroad…
1. Go lightweight
With destination weddings becoming more and more popular many suppliers are stocking up on light weight and breathable suit fabrics. Linen is a popular choice of fabric for the summer, however the only downside to linen is that it creases almost straight away! Some other materials suitable for the hot temperatures are cotton and lightweight wool mixes.
2. Colour it right
The darker the suit the more you will attract the sun. So why not choose a lighter coloured suit? Light blue and grey shades look lovely in the sun (as proven by our Santorini grooms Will and Jonny!). Don’t worry if light colours aren’t for you though, lots of places have a selection of navy blue and black suits suitable for the hot temperatures!
A traditional three piece suit is probably the most popular choice for a wedding in the UK, but for a destination wedding, less layers work too. Whether it be a a suit and jacket with an open neck collar, or no suit jacket at all. Whatever you choose, be sure to imagine yourself wearing it in 20+degree heat. If you can’t, then it may be worth looking at other options.
5. Kick your shoes off and go casual!
If the thought of wearing a suit in the hot temperatures isn’t appealing to you then why not go down the casual root? You could do this by wearing just a shirt and pants or even shorts! If you do want to add a bit of formal to your look though, perhaps add a bow tie or braces like out Zante groom Noel and Crete groom Elliott did!
6. Matching your attire to your bride to be
It is important that whatever you wear suits your wedding theme and beautiful bride to be! Your bride may have a completely different style in mind than you so have the conversation early on in the planning stage to ensure that you are both on the same page as to whether it is going to be relaxed event or formal affair.
Whichever look you want to achieve remember that the heat will be a big factor of the day! Can you think of anything worse than being too hot and wanting the day to be over as quick as possible just so you can change? Start your search early on in the planning stage, try on different styles and see what works best!
